The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council
BSc (Hons.) Clinical Hypnosis Degree St Mary’s University College (Psychology Department) in Twickenham, London, in collaboration with the GHSC affiliated training school, the Brief Strategic Therapy & Clinical Hypnosis Foundation (BST Foundation), is now offering a BSc (Hons.) programme providing students with a recognised UK university awarded academic qualification in Clinical Hypnosis. We regard this as a significant step forward in the recognition of clinical hypnosis as a sound psychological and scientifically based stand-alone therapeutic discipline. The programme will allow suitable applicants of both non-medical and medical backgrounds, in addition to pre-existing hypnotherapists, to achieve a recognised academic qualification and comprehensive training of the highest university standard. The course is held in central London on interspersed Saturdays throughout the academic year and provides a scientific and practical understanding of the principles and practices of Clinical Hypnosis. Teaching is delivered through a variety of methods including traditional lectures, practicals and seminars. Over 60% of the course is practically based, allowing for the development of client centred hypnotherapuetic skills and students are assessed over a broad range of criteria throughout the programme in keeping with recognised University guidelines. Each year of the course carries full university credits and also offers a University awarded qualification. After one year of study, students will be awarded a Certificate in Higher Education in Clinical Hypnosis. Following successful completion of the second year, a Diploma in Higher Education in Clinical Hypnosis will be awarded. Those students wishing to gain a degree level qualification will be required to complete a third year of study in order to secure a BSc (Hons.) Clinical Hypnosis (360 Credits). GHR practitioners who can demonstrate the appropriate prior learning or experience and wish to apply to update their training with a recognised university qualification, may be eligible to take a fast track route and be directly accepted onto the second year of the BSc programme.
