LEN MASON SQHP FNCP (Practitioner Representative)
Founder Member - National Council of Psychotherapists - 1971
President - National Council of Psychotherapists - 1995 to 1997
I was born in Greenwich in 1927 and at the beginning of Word War 2 was evacuated for a few weeks before deciding to return to London. When the war ended, I was called up for National Service into the RAF, where I qualified as a pilot. In 1949 I left the Service and married my (now) dear wife, Joyce. We were blessed with 2 children, a boy and a girl. In 1956 we moved to Stevenage where I obtained a position with the aircraft manufacturer, De Havilland.
In 1967, I became interested in Hypnotherapy and in 1971 I followed up an advertisement in the “Telegraph” announcing a meeting of interested Hypnotherapists to join with others at a London venue in order to discuss the possibility of forming an organisation which would protect our interests against possible Government legislation.
The late Norman Lee and John Beard were the instigators of this idea and at our first meeting, the National Council of Psychotherapists (later to include The Hypnotherapy Register) was formed, in which I was privileged to serve as a Committee Member. Later, I was elected President and when I finally retired from this position, the Committee was kind enough to award me an Honorary Fellowship. When William Broom established The General Hypnotherapy Register in 2000, I asked to be registered, since when I have been privileged to be awarded the Senior Qualification in Hypnotherapy Practice.
I still continue to practice at the age of 84, using my Emotional Release Therapy technique (which I pioneered) to great effect. I have no plans to retire yet!
